Who it affects
Candidates with a SkillSelect EOI who want a state or territory nomination for the Skilled Nominated (190) or the state-nominated Skilled Work Regional (491) visa.
How nominations work
- A state or territory nomination in SkillSelect triggers an invitation to be issued. It is not affected by the department’s invitation rounds.
- Each jurisdiction assesses applicants against its own criteria, so nomination requirements vary by state.
- Tasmania’s nomination service fee for 2026-27 is AUD 387 (AUD 425.70 with GST), and submitting a Registration of Interest remains free.
- Victoria charges AUD 60 for a Registration of Interest and AUD 180 for each 190 or 491 nomination application in 2026-27 (AUD 66 and 198 with 10% GST for applicants in Australia). The nomination fee is payable only after an invitation.
What to check
- The counts cover only 1 July to 31 August 2026. Check the Home Affairs SkillSelect page for later figures.
- Each state or territory’s own page for whether it is open, which streams and occupations it accepts, and its fees.
- For your own case, ask a registered migration agent (MARA) or an Australian legal practitioner.
