What changed
On 22 October 2026 South Australia opened Registrations of Interest (ROI) only to people already living and working in SA whose current visas are due to expire by 31 January 2027. Offshore candidates are invited straight from their SkillSelect EOI, so they do not need a Registration of Interest.
For the 2026-27 General Skilled Migration program South Australia prioritises construction, engineering, manufacturing, trades, health and education. Priority-industry candidates whose occupation is 190-eligible get 190 invitations, and the rest get 491 invitations.
Who it affects
People living and working in South Australia on a visa that expires by 31 January 2027, and offshore candidates who have a SkillSelect EOI. The state nominates for the Skilled Nominated (190) and Skilled Work Regional (491) visas.
Key numbers
- Skilled Employment stream: South Australian residence and full-time work (at least 30 hours a week) for the last 12 months in the same ANZSCO sub-major group as the nominated occupation, age under 45, Competent English and 65 points including nomination points.
- Outer Regional Skilled Employment stream: nine months of living and working in Outer Regional South Australia with a current full-time role of at least 30 hours a week, plus the same age, English and 65-point requirements.
- Nomination fee: AUD 394 for both the 190 and the 491. The Registration of Interest costs nothing.
- Processing: an average of 2 to 8 weeks for 190 and 491 nomination applications. South Australia publishes no processing time for Registrations of Interest.
What to check
- Whether your visa expires by 31 January 2027, because the onshore registration is open only on that condition.
- South Australia’s own pages for the current registration status, the occupation list and the invitation rules, which can change.
- For your own case, ask a registered migration agent (MARA) or an Australian legal practitioner.
