What changed
- eVisitor (651): the Migration (Arrangements for eVisitor Visa Applications) Instrument 2026 replaced the 2016 eVisitor application arrangements from 29 September 2026. An eVisitor application must be lodged online as an internet application on Form 1362 (Internet), under a Home Affairs instrument registered on 28 September 2026.
- Approved Destination Status stream of the Visitor (600) visa: the list of Approved Destination Status travel agents was replaced by a Home Affairs amendment instrument registered on 28 September 2026 (LIN 26/060), commencing the next day. The stream is for citizens of the People’s Republic of China travelling as part of a tour organised by an approved travel agent.
- No Further Stay: the Government announced it will add a No Further Stay condition to all visitor visas so they are used only by genuine visitors and not to extend a stay in Australia. Our rulebook has no start date for it.
- Condition 8503 (no further stay) means the holder is not entitled to be granted another substantive visa, other than a protection visa, while remaining in Australia. The regulations already allow it on Tourist stream and Business Visitor stream visas.
Costs and eligibility
- eVisitor: applying costs nothing. Passports come from 36 mainly European countries or jurisdictions.
- ETA (601): there is no visa application charge, and the only cost is an application service fee of AUD 20 for using the Australian ETA app. Passports of South Korea and Japan are on the ETA-eligible list.
- Visitor (600) outside the Frequent Traveller stream: the base charge is AUD 250 for an applicant outside Australia and AUD 630 for one applying from inside Australia, for passports outside the Pacific list, unless a nil-charge exemption applies.
Who it affects
Travellers who use an eVisitor, an ETA or a Visitor (600) visa, and tour groups travelling under the Approved Destination Status stream.
What to check
- Which visitor visa your passport qualifies for: eVisitor, ETA or Visitor (600).
- The conditions on your grant notice, and the Home Affairs policy changes page for the start date of the No Further Stay condition. For your own case, ask a registered migration agent (MARA) or an Australian legal practitioner.
